The 94-year-old airship industry in Bedfordshire could end if a planning application goes through. Plans to build 167 homes at nearby Shortstown puts the industry at risk as it is claimed it will not be "operationally viable".
Airships have been built and maintained at Cardington airfield since 1918 when Short Brothers build them for the Admiralty.
Shed Number 1 at Cardington is a listed building and was home to famous R-101 airship, which crashed and caught fire in 1930
